To mark the 10th anniversary of the Iraq war this week, Tomas Young, a dying Iraq war veteran who was shot and paralyzed after serving only 5 days in 2004, allowed us to post a personal, heartbreaking letter that he wrote to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, (a close friend of Young’s), shared his thoughts on the letter. “I think that letter is the most effective piece of anti-war literature written in 50 years,” he told us.

Hey all! I’m back! Took some time off to get in some sunshine, relaxation and jazz in New Orleans. Figured I’d get it all in now before all this SXSW madness takes over my life.

And speaking of SXSW, this next band will be there! HolySexyBastards is a group out of Finland, now living in Venezuela (Not sure how that worked out). But nonetheless… they rock! I’m not that into guitar-shredding, but sometimes it just hits you in the right spot. This track is one of those ;-)

Fryars - Love So Cold

Take the best values of R&B from the 70’s and perfectly meld it with the sensibilities of 21st century indie music and you get Fryars. I wouldn’t necessarily call this genre-bending, millions of artists have been trying to crack this sound, but very few seem to ever get it right. (Also check out Ava Luna’s track “Ice Level”)

Super excited to see what’s next from this talent :-)

San Fermin - Sonsick

By far one of the most exciting tracks I’ve heard in a bit. The band leader is assistant to the legendary Nico Muhly which probably explains why it’s so ridiculously good and amazingly well-written.

Can we just be thankful that we’re bombarded with the chorus every 15 seconds? I’ve never thought I’d be saying that :-P
